Experimental Mixed Media
"Collage is the noble conquest of the irrational, the coupling of two realities, irreconcilable in appearance, upon a plane which apparently does not suit them." - Max Ernst
Experimental Mixed Media explores elements of 2-dimensional visual art with an exploratory and open approach. Mixed media allows participants to choose from any material they desire - some may prefer classical mediums, such as paint and/or pencils, and other may branch into material not commonly found in art. The goal is to find new ways to express one's self with the chosen material.
Participants will learn about concepts such as positive and negative space, basic color theories, scale, and composition. Within the various projects, each individual will be encouraged to discover novels ways to work with materials. Discussion of the significance of the mediums we choose will be a theme of this class - such as the phrase from Marshall McLuhan, "The medium is the message".
