Kwang Lee
Biography
Kwang Lee grew up in South Korea. His hobbies include painting and assembling model cars and planes. He likes gardening and is a movie buff. He often enjoys watching two or three movies in a row and his favorites are war movies, westerns, or science fiction.
He began painting when his sister took him to her watercolor and Asian art classes. Eventually he developed his own painting style, primarily using scrap wood and acrylic paints as his supplies. He paints scenes from his childhood in Korea, as well as characters from children’s storybooks.
Kwang joined the OSLP Arts & Culture Program in 2016 and attends our Open Studio classes. His sister, Tani, tells us, "Painting means so much to him. It gives him his own peaceful world, makes him feel relaxed happy and calm, like all of the bright colors on his paintings."
In Korea, he worked with milk cows and still misses them a lot, even though his daily routine would start at 4:30a.m. and he often worked until late at night. He drove a little tractor to gather grass or apples to feed the cows, and sometimes he helped to deliver calves.
Now painting is a very important part of his daily life and he spends many hours doing so. Kwang is grateful to the staff and his comrades at the OSLP Arts & Culture Program.
