Lisa Sansevere
Biography
Lisa Sansevere (b. 1971) has been making art since she was little. She draws, paints, makes jewelry, and creates pieces out of yarn. When asked what her artwork means to her, she states: "It is important to me because it is something I am able to do". Legally blind, Sansevere begins her drawings by using a black sharpie. She is able to see high contrast and this gives her free-flowing and intuitive drawings reference points for the overall composition. She is inspired by stained-glass windows from church and takes pride in her choice of colors. Lisa makes her stained-glass inspired drawings with sharpies, markers, colored pencils, and crayons. When she is not drawing in studio, she is painting on canvas. Her themes typically include outdoor scenes and waterfalls.
Sansevere is an outgoing and outspoken individual. She is a major figure behind the Look Me in the Eye advocacy campaign and will be happy to talk to you about the rights of people with disabilities. She is always ready to help anyone in need and has a knack for coming up with aphorisms in any situation.
She was born in Lakewood, New Jersey and grew up in a few different states, including Connecticut and Oregon. She is now a celebrated crew member at Threadbare Print House in Eugene. Sansevere has been attending classes and events at the OSLP Arts & Culture Program since it was established in the fall of 2012.
