Shirley Beebe
Artist Obituary
Shirley Beebe (1954-2022)
Shirley loved drawing, painting, making jewelry, weaving, and sewing. Since attending classes at the OSLP Arts & Culture program she focused on her work as a painter. She had a natural ability for capturing small details, and painted portraits of her loved ones, landscapes, animals, and flowers. She had a keen eye for what she wanted her paintings to look like, and worked hard to get the outcome she wanted, sometimes going through several versions of the same painting. She used a sophisticated color pallet and approached each work with dedication and determination.
Beebe spent much of her time with her son Albert, and daughter Cristal, who also live in Eugene. It was important for her to stay social and making art was a way for her to get out of the house and meet new people.
Shirley Beebe was born in Pendleton, OR and grew up in Hermiston, OR. She was constantly inspired by the beautiful landscape of Oregon. She started making art in junior high and was the student aide for her art class in high school. She began attending classes at the Arts & Culture Program in the summer of 2013, and was a welcome sight in the studio, where she was a regular participant until she passed away this April, 2022.
She was special to all of the staff at the Arts & Culture Program, both for her engagement with her artwork, and her friendship. We will miss watching her work on her beautiful paintings, and will always remember her kind heart, strong will, and easy sense of humor.
