Shirley Beebe
Biography
Shirley Beebe (b. 1954) draws, paints, makes jewelry, and enjoys weaving and sewing. Since attending the OSLP Arts & Culture program she has become more serious about her work as a painter. She has a natural ability for capturing small details and paints portraits of her loved ones, landscapes, animals, and flowers. Her paintings, inspired from old photographs or images she finds, are given a new life by changing colors and adding layers of interesting texture. She has a keen eye for what she wants her paintings to look like and will keep working until she gets the outcome she wants (sometimes going through several versions of the same painting). She uses a sophisticated color pallet and approaches each work with dedication and determination.
Beebe spends much of her time with her son and daughter who also live in Eugene. It is important for her to stay social and making art has been a way for her to get out of her home and meet new people.
Shirley Beebe was born in Pendleton, OR and grew up in Hermiston, OR. She's always been inspired by the beautiful landscape of Oregon. She started making art in junior high and was a student aide for her art class in high school. She has been attending classes at the Arts & Culture Program since the summer of 2013.
